The town of Westport is renowned as Ireland’s premiere Sea Angling destination and for many years anglers have come and fished the calm and sheltered waters of Clew Bay.  The Countrywide Hotels Ireland Ltd Sea Angling package is based at The Helm, situated on the quayside.

The Helm makes a superb base for angling holidays as it provides: charter boat, olde worlde bar, restaurant and evening entertainment most evenings. This is coupled with nine excellent 2, 2 and 2 bedroom apartments, all with en-suite facilities and TV.  Each 3 bedroom apartment has a magnificent view of the harbour.

Westport, designated as a Heritage Town, is situated in the shadow of Croagh Patrick, overlooking Clew Bay. One of the few planned towns in the Country, Westport was designed in the 18th Century by James Wyatt. It has become one of Ireland's established tourism centres, with many outstanding features, most notably the beautiful tree lined boulevard known as The Mall, running parallel to the Carrowbeg River.

Mayo is vast and Ireland's least populated county.  It offers a massive coastline, and Wesport is located at the door to some of the very best sea angling waters. The huge sheltered bays of Co. Mayo allow fishing in all but the worst conditions.  Mayo's waters offer a truly remarkable variety of species, particularly from May or June to November.

The seas around Mayo support a wide variety of fish species which provide the sea angler with excellent fishing. Westport is one of three main centres catering for the sea angler in Mayo, along with Belmullet and Killala.  Shore fishing is also widely available along the Mayo coast.

The current Irish record Blue Shark and Porbeagle Shark records were both taken in the ocean off Achill Island. Clew Bay’s fame as a common skate ground is slowly recovering given the introduction of mandatory catch & release (bar a new record). The deep waters around Clare Island offer superb fishing. Anglers out of Westport have been known to boast of taking two octopus and a John Dory from eighteen species in a day.  Good pollack are always available on the drift from the reefs around Deace's Rock and further out the Bills Rocks offer superb reef fishing.

The Countrywide Sea Angling package is based upon groups of minimum 8 and maximum 10 people and consists of:

• 7 Nights Bed, Traditional Irish breakfast and Dinner.

• Pack lunches are included for the days fishing.

• Boat with experienced skipper is provided for 5 Days angling sessions will commence on Day 2.The angling sessions will run on Day 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Rods and bait are provided on the boat.

• Day 7 is free time to relax and “do as you please”.  A snack lunch will be provided.

• There will be open opportunities to experience Irish pubs and music.

• Collection and return by coach at Knock or Galway airport.
